Hey there!
I’m a visual designer based in Virginia with 3 years of experience of which 2+ was in the video game industry. I have worked with Riot Games, Amtrak, and Wix. I love learning and continue to absorb from the world daily.
The Story
I have a strong interest in communication and intercultural communication. I spent my childhood in California, moved to Japan in middle school and back to the US for university at Maryland Institute College of Art where I double-majored in Graphic Design and Humanistic Studies with a minor in Illustration. I learned Mandarin from my family, English from school and then Spanish in Japan (instead of Japanese ironically).
The Value of Design
From traveling often, I've discovered that design is a universal language that connects people worldwide. Icons and logos, no matter where you go, were multilingual— simultaneously Mandarin, English, and Japanese. It's fascinating how design systems transcend cultural boundaries, and this is what drives me as a designer.
But design isn't just about communication; it's also a way to learn about people. It's incredible how we can communicate through similar design experiences, even when we don’t share the same language. It was amazing to find that on opposite sides of the world, I could still find people who made the same associations to certain iconography as me.
This is why I believe in design. Design is a language that can help different cultures communicate with each other. It allows us, as humans, to understand, explore and appreciate each other and our different backgrounds. I want to help build that bridge.
The Free Time
I also found that wherever I was in the world, I was always able to connect with others and build communities through video games. Beyond connecting with others, from an early age, I have always enjoyed immersing myself in fictional worlds, whether it was through games, books or movies. In my free time, I love to play video games with friends while listening to musicals or immerse myself in books. Some of my favourite authors include Anthony Doerr, Ted Chiang, and Neal Shusterman. Currently, I’m trying to tackle the Harry Potter series in Spanish.
